Memorial Day
From Rob Huffman's album Tone without Tension

Today I thought on days gone by, a thing I rarely do
Remembering places I have been and people I once knew
And with a silent inward smile I thought how very strange
That years from now and far away we'll look back on today

Of family, friends, acquaintances, of cherished places gone
Forgotten opportunities, decisions deadly wrong
And looking back on what has changed, I wished there were a way
That for just one moment of my youth I could see this place today

Now maybe it is best that we don't know what lies in store
Though if somehow we knew our fate it could compell us more
For choices made are roads we take that lead us to the place
Where years from now and far away we'll look back on today

So today as I was looking back I raised an empty glass
To recognize the damage done I drink not to the past
But to tomorrow's promises and to the price you paid
I pray there comes a prouder time to look back on today

Today I thought on days gone by, a thing I rarely do
